A band director at an Alabama high school has been accused of committing sex crimes to at least eight young girls.
Jeffery Lance Gainous, 32, was reportedly only a few weeks into a new position in Georgia when he was arrested Wednesday on charges of school employee engaging in a sex act, WALA reports. Police said additional charges are forthcoming.
Gainous taught band at T. R. Miller High School in Brewton, Alabama, for six years. Cops say that he bound and gagged his victims and used other bondage devices on them. Some of the teens were former students, and none of were aware of each others’ alleged involvement with the teacher until recently.
Investigators said he had sexual contact with at least eight high school girls over a period of three years while working in Brewton.
Police said Gainous confessed to tying up the girls and gagging them in the sex acts at the school band room and at his home.
Officials said this is the first charge in a large criminal investigation involving Gainous, who was previously employed with the Brewton City School System for six years. He resigned in June to take a position with Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, GA.
Brewton officers traveled to Thomasville Wednesday to interview Gainous. After several hours of investigation, Gainous was arrested on a Class B Felony.
Gainous was booked into the Thomas County Jail and extradited to Alabama late Thursday evening. Brewton Police said additional charges are expected, but did not provide specific details.
